Homeschool Historians
A monthly program held on select Fridays, with each month featuring a different theme. Homeschoolers ages pre-K through high school are invited to explore American history through hands-on activities, games, and crafts. Registration in advance is required. Below are answers to our most frequently asked questions.
For what ages are these programs designed?
Pre-K through high school! We plan activities for all ages.
Will all ages be together, or will they be divided up?
All ages will be together, although activities will be slightly different based on ages and abilities. The programs are designed to allow families to move between activity stations at their own pace.
Can we register for both programs offered in a given month?
The theme and activities are the same for both programs in a given month. Please register for just one to give other families a chance to participate!
Are there really only 20 spots per date?
To start, yes — we have limited staffing outside of the summer season. If both monthly programs fill up and we have sufficient site staff and volunteers to support it, we may open additional dates or increase registration caps.
What time are the programs?
10 am – 2 pm. They're intended to be full-day programs, but if you have younger children with shorter attention spans you are welcome to come and go as you please. The programs are structured to allow flexibility and free-roam time around the site.
Are parents expected to stay and participate with their children?
Yes, absolutely! The programs are designed for families to explore activity stations together at their own pace. A parent or guardian is required to stay for the duration of the program.
Do we need to bring supplies?
No — there is a small registration fee for each program to cover the cost of supplies, so you don't need to bring your own.
Will participating children get to dress up in historic clothing?
Not at this time, though we hope to offer this in the future! We want to ensure every participant feels equally included, and we currently don't have enough period outfits for all attendees.
If my children love the program and want to volunteer at the site, can they do that?
You can volunteer as a family! Youth volunteers ages 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also volunteering. We host a monthly new volunteer orientation at 9 am on select Saturdays, followed by additional training on dates of your choosing.
